Jacoiya Brown sometimes gets lost in her sisters shadows, but on Friday’s game with rival Ryan, she came up with what arguably might have been the biggest basket for the Broncos since the 2005-06 season.

Brown finished with 11 points, and her sister Jamecia added a game high 16 points as Denton emerged with a 48-44 victory . Guard Jasmine Taylor added 11 points for the Broncos who moved to 18-6 overall and 3-1 in 4-4A play.

It also handed cross-town rival Ryan, its first district loss since 2010 as they had just one player Teana Ogeden reach double figures. She scored 31 of her teams 44 points.

“In order for them to gain some respect, they had to step up tonight and get the job done,” Krishka said. “Our program has come a long way. … It’s just huge for our kids to know they can play with [Ryan] and play at their level and be a championship-caliber team.”
