The calendar for the next school year has been approved by the district. The first day of school for students is Aug. 15, 2018, with Freshman Day taking place the day before. The year concludes on May 23, 2019 with senior graduation on May 24 or 25.

Assistant Principal Kimberly Thaggard said that this calendar will fair toward students’ favor. Compared to the 2017-2018 calendar, next year’s winter break is extended. It will go from Dec. 22 to Jan. 4.

“I think it’s going to be better next year,” Thaggard said. “The biggest adjustment for students is going to be that they’ll have a more realistic timeline. It’s going to be replenished since it was cut short last year.”

Other dates are about the same, except for the fact that there will be no bad weather makeup days this time around, compared to this year when there were three. Additionally, there are no student holidays between Martin Luther King Day in January and Spring Break, March 11-15.
