German Students win at State, bring home accolades and autograph

Over the weekend, DHS German Students traveled to Texas State University in San Marcos to complete against over 600 students from 68 other schools in the 34th annual Texas State German Contest.

Senior Logan Maltz received an autographed basketball from Dirk Nowitzki for having the second highest point total for an individual and is eligible for a scholarship, due to his high scores in multiple events

Students represented DHS in competition, and were also commended on their excellent behavior during the contest and field trip the previous day.

Earning seventh in the Overall Sweepstakes as a whole, the following students placed in individual competitions as follows:

In addition to second overall for total individual points, Logan Maltz placed first in Sight Reading 4, second in Extemporaneous Speaking, Grammar 4, and Vocabulary 4 events; third in Spelling 4; fifth in Culture 4; and sixth place in Reading Comprehension 4.

Sophomore Ellie Halbert placed second in Skit 3, fifth in Club Album and ninth in Varsity Paß auf! Events. She also competed in Gingerbread House (T), Research Paper, Prose Reading 2, Sight Reading 2 and Vocabulary 2.

Senior Annika Keesecker placed fifth in Einzelplattler, ninth in Varsity Paß auf! and tenth in Doll Costume events.

 

Senior Jason Howard placed second in Skit 3, eighth in Prose Reading and competed in Spelling 3.

 

Freshman Kolt Bundy placed second in Skit and fifth in Einzelplattler. (pictured)

 

Freshman Daria Moore placed fifth in Club Album and competed in Gingerbread House (T).

 

Junior Ethan Reynolds placed second in Skit 3, ninth in Varsity Paß auf! and competed in Grammar 3.

 

Junior Lupita Montoya placed second in Skit 3 and ninth in Varsity Paß auf!

 

Junior Kat Ricardo placed second in Skit 3 and ninth in Varsity Paß auf!

 

Senior Tyr Major placed second in Skit 3 and ninth in Varsity Paß auf!
