On October 22, the Denton High School marching band competed at the UIL Region 2 marching contest at the C.H. Collins Comples. The marching band competed against a standard, and they were awarded a Division 1 rating, advancing to the area contest in Odessa on October 29.
“We performed, we stood around, and then they called out our name, and we all cheered,” said sophomore Lizzy Dieterich. “Some people were crying, but I was just really happy!”
DHS will be pitted against 24 other bands at area and the top 4 will advance to state held in November in San Antonio.
“My number one goal is to make state,” Brian Wilson, director of bands said. “But to achieve that, we have to make finals in Odessa.”
That means another week of long hard practices so the band can reach it’s goal.
“I expect us to get a million times better by Saturday,” Samantha Irons said. “Mr. Woolery has given them some extra motivation apparently and said he was going to dress up as Lady Gaga if we made it to state.”
