Basketball fights for playoff spot with three to play
With just three games left to play the district 5-4A boys basketball race is heating up as four teams are battling for the last two spots.
Denton, Wichita Falls and Brewer all enter the final week and a half with a 6-5 district record and Wichita Falls Rider is just one back of all three at 5-6.
The Broncos can clinch a playoff berth outright with victories in two of its last three games. If they defeat Azle on Tuesday and Rider on Friday, they would knock the Raiders out of the playoff race as long as they don’t upset Denton Guyer on Tuesday.
To clinch third place out right the team would have to win its remaining three games get some help to avoid a tie with Wichita Falls. The Coyotes have games at home left against Lake Dallas and Rider and a road game at Guyer.
Brewer the other team in the mix has the hardest schedule of the three with games at home against the top two teams in Nelson and Guyer and an away game at Lake Dallas.
The two teams that survive will draw a first round date in the playoffs with either Birdville or Dunbar.
