Having lost its two regional qualifiers to graduation, the Denton boys and girls cross country teams entered the 2010 season on the inexperienced side. The teams both held their own at the Marcus I Invitational this past weekend competing against 5A schools.
Senior captain Chris Burke led the boy’s squad finishing in a time of 16:53 followed by Mason Adams in a time of 18:59. Rounding out the boy’s varsity were Juan Vargas, Jake Taylor, Brand Richter and Josh Harden.
The girl’s side was paced by a pair of sophomores in Emily Gray and Taren Young. Gray led the Broncos crossing the finish line in a time of 13:09 followed 27 seconds later by Young. Shelby Howell finished at the 14:05 mark followed by Jordan Muniz (14:22), Lindsay Contreras (14:39) and Taryn Scheusler.
The junior varsity also ran and just Sami Baruwal competed for the girls finishing at 18:34. The boys had six competitors enter the competition led by Paul Wells (20:20) and Mynor Ruiz (20:38). Others that ran were Vineet Azia, Brandon McManus, Brian Bender and Daniel Carrillo.
