The two Wichita Falls schools will meet on Friday night in Wichita Falls to see who advances to Saturday’s winner take all game.
A Bronco win on Saturday would clinch another playoff berth and a first round date with Dunbar.
In an all-out dog-fight against Byron Nelson, the Broncos came out the gates and took an n 11-4 lead after the first quarter. It looked as though the Broncos were going to continue their home dominance, where they have only lost one district game on their court.
Before fans could get to comfortable with the lead, the Bobcats switched gears, and held the Broncos to only three points in the second quarter, and took a 20-14 lead to intermission.
To start the second half the Broncos came out on an 8-0 run to regain the lead which they would hold until Nelson’s layup with three seconds to go forced overtime.
Senior Adarian Harris was able to sink two free throws with 10 seconds left in the game, and the Bobcats were left with a few seconds to try and force a tie or overtime.
Byron Nelson then was able to make a full court pass to one of their players who was able to make a contested layup and send the game into overtime.
Head coach Harold Jackson acknowledged that the game could have went either way in regulation.
“It was anybody’s game,” Jackson said. “It’s just who made the last play, and they had the ball last.”
Jackson also acknowledged that the Bobcats were able to make more plays towards the end of the game, and that ultimately resulted the game. In overtime the Broncos were outscored 15-3, and just couldn’t find an answer on the court
“I thought my kids played really hard,” Jackson said. “I thought they fought really hard, but down the stretch I thought Byron Nelson made more plays than we did, and obviously they made the last play to send it into overtime.”
