After two long weeks of relaxation, the Lady Broncos were finally able to make a place in the new season as a definite challenge for any opposing team. January’s early season scrimmage proved the Lady Broncos to be a good candidate for this year’s playoffs, and also proved them as a determined team.
The previous year was a great one for the DHS girls’ soccer team. They made it to playoffs, beat Boswell 2-0 in the bi-district round, but lost to Wichita Falls High in the second round 3-1.
Four players are gone from last season’s playoff team, but return seven starters. Three key players to keep an eye on are, Taylor Kennedy, Kyla Petrie, and Morgan Rushing. With their return, as well as others, their coach, Iseed Khoury, is confident in this season’s success.
“We’re in one of the toughest 4A districts in the state, but I think we’ll do well,” Khoury said.
With a good start to the 2011 season, Khoury is hopeful for a spot in the playoffs.
“I have a very good outlook after the scrimmage since the kids played with lots of energy and commitment,” Khoury said. “I’m very proud of them and their hard work. It’s paid off.”
The members of the team are also aware of their growing teamwork.
“Our team is working better together,” said Petrie, a sophomore. Fellow teammate, junior,Taylor Kennedy said, “We have put forth lots of hard work and practice.”
Most of all, these girls are succeeding with motivation from each other.
“I really like getting closer to the team and seeing all of our hard work pay off,” junior, Chelsea King, said.
With victories already under their belt, this looks like it could be another successful year for the Lady Broncos.
