Volleyball preparing for district play

The volleyball team enters tonight’s game with a season record of 7-10, with two games left before starting district play next Friday. We sat down with head coach Danielle Silva to get where she thinks her team is at this point.

Mo Diop- “What are your expectations for the season?”

Coach Silva-“My expectations for this season are to go deeper in the playoffs than we did last year, to also have a better record and to keep building on the positives ”

Mo Diop– “How do you think your team will do in district this year?”

Coach Silva- “We have the possibility of being district champs, we just have to get some kids that are injured back to being healthy”

Mo Diop– “What are your strengths and weaknesses?”

Coach Silva– “Right now our strengths are, we’re scrappy and we’re also able to pick up some balls that most teams would think would be dead. Our weaknesses, we’re struggling with communication and then injuries.”

Mo Diop– “What players have improved a lot?”

Coach Silva– “ Hannah Altman has really stepped up, she was voted co-captain played middle for us last year we trained her as a setter so she’s really stepped at the setting position, as well as the offense. Also Kenzie Dozier who was voted co-captain has really stepped up to earn some more point for us.”

Mo Diop– “Any stats so far?”

Coach Silva- “Offensively Hannah Altman has 69 kills, Jade Akins who’s been injured most of the season has played in 7 games and has 71 kills, Kenzie Dozier has 81 and Kody Jones has 43. Setting Hannah Altman has 143 assists, freshmen Emily Acker has 128 assists. Defensively, new comer Emily Curtis who is my libero who’s a sophomore has 24 digs, Jade Akins has 49 digs and Kenzie Dozier has 55 and Hannah Altman has 57.”
