Adarian Harris

Summer is the time for people to relax and sleep in. Most teenagers stay up all night, eat junk food, and get rarely any type of physical activity, but for one student, that is not the case.

Adarian Harris spends majority of his summers traveling around the country, and those trips are not spent going to beaches or a luxury vacation. He is playing against top basketball teams who have high school basketball stars with one dream in mind. They all want to be that one in a million to make it to the pros.

“I’ve been going a lot of places such as South Carolina, New Orleans, Florida, Houston, and San Antonio,” Harris said. “I pretty much like to travel because I get to see a lot of new things that I’ve never seen before.”

Like many people in the world, Harris began playing basketball when he was four years old. He’s been around the game for most of his life, and believes it helped him out a lot in life.

“If it wasn’t for basketball, I’d probably be in the streets going down the wrong direction,” Harris said. “It really sets me aside and keeps me out of trouble.”

Alongside travel basketball, Harris also is a returning three year varsity basketball player for his high school team with big intentions.

“I want to lead my team in the right direction this season, and leave it all out on the table,” Harris said. “We will definitely be making playoffs. I don’t know how far we’ll go, so when we get there we’ll just have to see.”

The drive and motivation is what really keeps Harris going to be the best at what he does.  His motivation show exactly where his heart is, and has been for a while.

“I’m very fortunate to play this game,” Harris said. “My biggest motivation is seeing a lot of people that are less fortunate to do what I’m able to do. It’s just seeing people that are less fortunate just drives me to be at my best potential.”

Although Harris sleeps and eats basketball, it’s not the only thing he does in his spare time. Harris likes to take advantage of the time he has left to spend with friends he’s known since he was in elementary.

“I like to spend time with my family and hangout with my friends,” Harris said. “We’re not going to be around each other forever, and soon we’re going to go off to college and go off to different colleges.”

Harris has one dream and one dream only. Although there are millions of kids with the same dream, he believes he will be one of those millions to get to that dream.

“Honestly I want to make it to the NBA, but I know that there is a one in a million chance of making it,” Harris said. “I just want to prove to myself, and others that I can do it.”
