For most people, moving to a new area can be pretty stressful and often scary at times. Everything around you is different and you don’t know what to expect, but for junior Alex McCann, it was a pretty easy transition.

McCann, who transferred from Flower Mound Marcus, is beginning a new year at a new school with new people. Maybe you can even say that he’s having a much better time than he was at his old school.

“My parents bought a house, and it was right on the border of the Guyer and DHS district,” McCann said. “The biggest change is the atmosphere. People are a lot friendlier here than they were at Flower Mound Marcus.”

Although McCann is at a different school, his athletic sport has remained consistent for almost a decade.

“I’ve been playing football since I was seven years old,” McCann said. The only sport I’ve pretty much played is football, but a lot of people have told me that I should run track.”

While at Marcus McCann was a JV football player, but now that he’s at Denton he has higher standards. He is a first year varsity cornerback and, is expected to contribute a lot to the team as the season progresses.

“My individual goals are to catch interceptions and turn them into touchdowns,” McCann said. “My team goals are to win games, make playoffs, and take state.”

If you ever see McCann walking down the hall you will always see his hair in top shape, and smiling at the person he’s talking to. He takes a lot of pride in how he looks, or as he’s been told.

“The people who know me would probably describe me as fast, physical, and smart,” McCann said. “Others who probably don’t know me as well would describe me as a pretty boy, because that’s what my coaches think of me.”

Away from all the school, the football, and the girls, McCann likes to spend his spare time hanging out with friends.

“During my free time I like to hang out with friends, and play video games on occasion,” McCann said. “I also like to invite my friends over to my house so we can go swimming in my backyard.”

In the future McCann plans on getting a job in the field of Law Enforcement, but in the meantime, he just wants a job. According to McCann he really doesn’t mind whatever job he can get for the time being.

“I really don’t care where I get hired at. I just need money to be completely honest,” McCann said with a chuckle. “My mom will give me a PT Cruzer once I’m able to get a job.”

It’s safe to say that McCann is having the time of his life because he loves everything around him right now. Sure there’s a problem here and there, but overall he loves where he’s at.

“The best thing I like here at Denton so far is the people,” McCann said. “You actually feel like you have real friends. I definitely like it here more than I did at Marcus.”
