The NBA needs to figure some things out.I’m not entirely sure what those things are, but they still need to figure them out.
The labor dispute between the owners and the players has been ongoing since July 1st. NBA Commissioner David Stern has stated that if an agreement hasn’t been reached by the 10th, regular season games will be cancelled.
Imagine you made a lot of money… NBA money. And you had bosses who wanted you to make less money because they are losing money (or so they say) in whatever field this hypothetical is taking place. A big amount of money comes in, and you must decide who gets this money. Why, you may ask, don’t the bosses (owners) decide?
Without the players, the owners have no power and they have no money. Without the owners, the players have no power and less money. Players can go to Europe or Asia, but America cares much more about the NBA. There’s prestige involved. And while the owners can make money many other ways, no revenue at all would come in if the NBA didn’t have players like LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Durant.
You and your bosses rely on each other. And the fans rely on that wonderful relationship each year… from the exciting games in October and early November to the less exciting games in January and February, and especially when the exciting games return in May and June.
So please, players and owners… come back. It wouldn’t be a tragedy if the season were only 50 games long (actually, that would make the league more popular), but you wouldn’t make that much money, and we really miss you now that you’re gone.
